I'm passionate about the learning process and its power to transform lives. With a master’s degree in education and a deep belief in lifelong learning, I’ve found instructional design to be the perfect blend of creativity, curiosity, and impact.
While humorous, this comparison highlights a truth: even the most important or interesting content won’t stick if it’s delivered poorly.
That’s the heart of my design philosophy. I believe instructional design should never be an afterthought—it’s the bridge between knowledge and lasting learning. This is especailly true for adult learners balancing work, family, and life. For them, engagement, clarity, and relevance are essential. I use my love of learning to craft creative, accessible, and impactful experiences that make a meaningful difference in learners' lives.
With a decade of advising and student technical assistance under my belt, I understand the student experience. I design not just with theories in mind, but people. What will confuse them, what will help them? How can I lighten teh cognative load as much as possible? How to I balance the need for the comfort of consistency with the excitement of novelty? I know that understanding your target audience is more than half the battle in designing an effective learning experience. I can put myself in a learner's shows because I have so often walked beside them.
I thrive on teams that value collaboration, diverse perspectives, and shared success. I’ve contributed to complex, multi-stakeholder projects where thoughtful coordination made all the difference. At the same time, I’m just as comfortable flying solo—setting a game plan, putting on music, and getting the work done. Ideally, I enjoy the best of both worlds: a supportive team with the trust and autonomy to lead my piece of the puzzle.
I love the analysis phase of a project. It's important to me that I know what problem a project is trying to address to ensure that the solutions or products made actually achieve something meaningful. The best way to do that is ensure a thorough analysis phase (ADDIE model) including formative assessments through out the design process. Data and research provide needed context that shapes successful learning experiences.
One of the things I love most about this field is that I get to learn every day—whether that’s collaborating with a subject matter expert in an unfamiliar discipline or experimenting with a new AI tool. For me, professional development, certification programs, and learning community participation aren’t obligations—they’re perks. Special areas of interest for me are educational neuroscience, AI in instructional design, and effective durable skill teaching strategies .
